KANSIEC Chairman, Prof. Sani Malumfashi, announced this yesterday, following a court ruling that upheld the Commissions authority to proceed with the planned elections.

Recall that a Federal High Court, presided by Justice Simon Amobeda, on Tuesday delivered a judgement that disqualified the Chairman, Secretary, and other commissioners of the Commission.

Malumfashi said  Today, (Friday), Kano State High Court ruled in favour of the Commission, allowing us to proceed with the election process. The court has ordered relevant stakeholders, including the Police, to provide security and support for the electoral process.

The KANSIEC Chairman emphasised the importance of respecting the courts decision and ensuring smooth electoral conduct in the State. He noted that several political parties have already participated in the process, including NNPP, ZLP, Accord Party, NRM, AAC, and AA.

Malumfashi expressed disappointment over the actions of one particular party that has refused to participate in the electoral process. This party, he said, has failed to meet various deadlines, including the purchase of nomination forms, submission of candidate lists and participation in the primary election.

He, however, stressed that the Commission has followed due process throughout the electoral process, including the nomination of commissioners, which was approved by the State House of Assembly.

Furthermore, he highlighted the constitutional mandate for states to conduct local government elections and the Federal Governments directive to complete these elections by October 2024. According to him, the Commission remains committed to ensuring a free, fair, and credible election, and urged all stakeholders to cooperate and support the electoral process.
